A Peristaltic Pump is a type of positive displacement pump for pumping a variety of fluids. The pump is fitted with a roller and rotor assembly. The roller compresses the flexible tube (occlusion). The motion of the rotor forces the occluded region to move in a circular (or semi-circular) path. This action creates a vacuum behind the occlusion and a pressure in front, thus fluid can be drawn into the tube and passed to the outlet. A primary advantage of this type of pump is that the fluid never comes in contact with pump mechanism.
